Sirenuse Path
Require Info
In a very distant time, just 3 km from the Sorrento Peninsula, huge birds with a woman's face could be seen twirling in the air. They were the threatening Sirens, deadly babe for the sailors who cut through these seas, contaminated by their seductive and dangerous song. These creatures lived on three islets, today known as Li Galli, whose name derives from the feathered animals such as the Sirens.
We are in Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi, a hamlet of Massa Lubrense so called because from some points you can see both the Gulf of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno at the same time. The best point to admire the two bays is along the Path of the Sirens, a scenic ring route between terraces, valleys and cliffs that runs along the sea on the initial tract of the Amalfi Coast.
The walk twists and turns through old country roads, ancient stone wash houses where the locals still do their laundry today and dirt and flowery paths that look out over the sea.
An easy walk up to the Pizzetiello climb, a promontory on top of the cliffs of Punta Sant’Elia. It is 489 meters of steep ascent that ends on a meadow overlooking a beautiful landscape: the gaze is lost between Praiano and the Faraglioni and, with favorable weather, it is also possible to see Punta Licosa, the extreme point of the Gulf of Salerno. Opposite, it almost seems to look into the eyes of the mythological Li Galli archipelago, which is only 3 km away.
From the view of the blue sea you can see the different shades of green of the Mediterranean vegetation: vegetable gardens, olive groves, chestnut groves, oak groves and the luxuriant pine forest Le Tore.
Let's close our eyes and imagine that the rustle of the trees and the sound of the waves breaking on the rock is the song of the Sirens, who will keep us company during this walk to discover the hidden corners of the Sorrento Peninsula.
