Piscinas, place of the soul

Piscinas, place of the soul Piscinas, place of the soul

Is Animas is a valley that houses the remains of the village of Ingurtosu. Buildings for workers, the remains of a church, the old hospital, the ruins of construction sites. We are in South-Western Sardinia, in the Arbus area, where mines have been worked for over a hundred years.

Everything is still here, the landscape looks like the photograph of a still time. The birds gliding lightly, the hum of bees and the gusts of wind that raise - from time to time - a pile of dust, keep us company. Silence is absolute. This is how you cross the valley. After a few kilometers, the landscape changes completely. From mining archeology we pass to the natural paradise. Is it a trivial and overused word? Seeing the colors and shades of Piscinas it doesn’t look so.

First of all the dunes, up to sixty meters high. Very fine and golden sand, so particular that it is included in the list of World Heritage Sites by Unesco; the bright green of the Mediterranean vegetation, so dense that you can almost touch it; the emerald colors of the sea. A picture painted by the happy hand of Nature. A jewel that Sardinia protects and preserves, framing it among junipers, lentisco and olive trees.

Seven kilometers of shoreline run along this corner of the Sardinian coast. Offshore, the sea almost immediately falls into the crystalline depths that have made the island famous all over the world, with its sand steenbras, shi drums and sea breams. Once again a feeling prevails, that of suspension, while the wind continues to blow lightly between the dunes on the beach.

Surfers find their natural habitat here. The waves often reach considerable heights, so much so that surf, windsurf and kite frequently dot the blue of the landscape with their bright colors.

Far from every slight shadow of trouble in the daily routine, the beach of Piscinas welcomes anyone who wants to enjoy the masterpieces of nature. Here, close to the coast, the turtles lay their eggs, the Sardinian deers appear and disappear among the shrubs of the Mediterranean vegetation, the sea caresses the heart and mind and gives us time and beauty.
